Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering & Environmental Technology (LBEET) of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Patras was founded in 1990 and was established in 2002 (Journal of the Hellenic Republic 95/Α/30-4-2002), aiming at conducting research and training in the field of development, design, mathematical modeling and optimization of biochemical processes applied in biotechnological production of added-value products, as well as in treatment and valorization of municipal and agro-industrial wastewater. In the framework of the ALGAPHESH Project, coordinated by Prof. Michael Kornaros, LBEET is responsible for microalgal cultivation, characterization of the residual biomass, as well as for dissemination activities.

Laboratory of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products (LPCNP) is in operation since 1989 (Official foundation in 1995; Journal of the Hellenic Republic 38/22.02.95). LPCNP is a multidisciplinary Laboratory, which beyond the teaching duties in the graduate and post-graduate level, its major research focus is the synthesis, the conformational analysis and the structure-activity studies on bioactive peptides and peptides analogues of therapeutic and/or diagnostic significance. The Laboratory had the privilege to constitute the basic Unit of a National Network of Laboratories granted from the First Operational Program of Research and Technology of Greece (Stride 1991-1994, Project 91). Recently (2017), the University of Patras was ranked for the first time in the top 300 Institutions in the thematic area of Pharmacy and Pharmacology worldwide after evaluation by the QS World Ranking / Top Universities system. In the framework of the ALGAPHESH Project, LPCNP led by the Associate Professor Fotini Lamari, and in close collaboration with the Assistant Professor Sofia Hatziantoniou from the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology, is responsible for the extraction of phenolic products from the biomass of microalgae, the qualitative and quantitative determination of phenolic compounds, the standardization of phenolic products as well as for dissemination activities.
